Explore Medieval Florence on our San Marco Museum Tour:

Did you know that Florence has an extensive medieval legacy that complements its Renaissance richness and beauty? After exploring Florence’s main museums, let us take you into a smaller yet charming museum – the San Marco Museum. This peaceful place started as a Dominican monastery where monks lived, worked, and made beautiful art. On our San Marco Museum Tour, we’ll show you around the monks’ old living spaces and explain how famous artists like Fra Angelico turned plain walls into stunning works of art that you can still see today.

As we walk through the monastery’s quiet halls, we’ll step into the world of the medieval monks who lived there. We’ll tell you about life in the monastery and point out the little details in Fra Angelico’s work that most people walk right past. We’ll also visit the library, where you can see beautiful old books that monks wrote by hand hundreds of years ago. Overall it’s a wonderful tour at a somewhat underrated museum in Florence.

Tour Highlights:
  • Admire Fra Angelico’s frescoes in their original setting.
  • Explore medieval monastic life and its art.
  • Visit a historic library with hand-written books.
  • Discover this site’s role in Florence’s history.
